Watch out for mosquito bites. Mosquitoes leave itchy and even painful welts after they bite and suck your blood. They are not only unpleasant and irritating. But even if these are only minuscule physical effects on you, you must be concerned. They can also be dangerous. Through them, mosquitoes spread diseases. This is why you should always protect yourself and your family to ensure a more enjoyable time outdoors.



In North America, where there are a lot of humid and damp areas, about 10 percent of the 2000 species of mosquitoes live. They reproduce quickly in these areas. Pools of shallow waters are their favourite breeding grounds. The eggs mosquitoes lay here hatch fast and become adult mosquitoes which can be carriers of dangerous diseases.

One of them is the heartworm disease. Heartworm larvae are transmitted to pets through mosquito bites. As its name suggests, heartworm infects the animal's hearts. It clogs it up and causes serious cardiovascular problems then death.

Another is the Yellow fever. This disease is commonly found in South America and Africa. But a vaccine is available to treat it. However, there are still areas where the vaccine is unavailable. In consequence, large populations are infected and many of them suffer from it and die.

Also the notorious Dengue fever is another disease you could blame those mosquitoes for. This is more common in tropical countries. It is caused by certain type of mosquito that is active during day time.
There is also the possibility of contracting Malaria. Primarily found in Central and South America, Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and the South Pacific, its symptoms varies from one person to another. But the usual symptoms include fever and body aches which can lead to coma, and most unfortunate, death.

And then the last one on my list, among the plethora of other mosquito-caused diseases out there, is the West Nile Virus. Considered today as a seasonal epidemic in North America, West Nile virus makes causes inflammation of the brain. Without treatment, it can also have fatal consequences.

There are many ways to protect your family and pets from mosquito bites and their consequences. One way of insect control is to carefully choose the kind of clothes you wear at a specific time of day. When you go out during dusk or dawn, you must wear clothes that cover most parts of your body in order to prevent mosquito bites. Dusk and dawn are prime times of mosquito presence.

You should also use mosquito repellents and traps. Consider and practice this well when you are going out. Special products are available in the market that will protect children and pets. Buying and using a mosquito trap will also help in mosquito control. Also, it would definitely help you a lot if you would consider asking the help of a professional pest service control.

Also consider limiting the breeding areas of these pesky creatures. Shallow still waters are mosquitos' ideal breeding grounds. Clean out these kinds of waters in your home. Keep fish in your ponds to keep it mosquito-free. The fish will it mosquito larvae. Also throw stagnant water in containers stacked in your yard.

If you implement proper mosquito control, you can ensure the safety of your family. Do not risk exposure to mosquito-borne diseases by dismissing mosquito bites as small matters.
